The Primary Write Traits Workshop engages teachers in a highly interactive, hands-on experience that focuses on using the six traits in the earliest forms of children's writing. Participants learn to use literature, art, and a variety of other instructional activities to support the development of the traits in young learners.

Developing Writers Through Literature Workshop, K-12
Authentic literature can serve as a powerful model to illustrate the key features of good writing. The Developing Writers Through Literature Workshop is designed for teachers who want to learn practical, research-based ideas for using literature as mentor text to teach key writing skills and strategies. The workshop combines the use of real literature, along with six-trait instruction and the writing process, to create powerful lessons that guide and support student writers.

Writing Instruction Across the School Day Seminar, K-5
From the Lifting Literacy for Academic Achievement Seminar Series
This interactive one-day seminar reviews research on writing development and the best practices for instruction. The framework of a writing workshop is established with each instructional technique explored. Critical links are made from the writing workshop to content area writing by specifically addressing nonfiction forms and text patterns. Strategies for assessment and writing conferences are also shared. Participants have an opportunity to apply new learning and practice with support to ensure confident transfer into the classroom. An optional second day of classroom demonstrations provided by the professional development trainer is also suggested.

Writing Across the Curriculum Workshop, 6-12
A powerful approach to helping students learn content material is to have them write about the subject. Middle and high school teachers from any curricular area can use writing assignments in the classroom to motivate student writers and help them process and articulate new learning. Teachers will explore nontraditional writing assignments and classroom-tested strategies that encourage thinking, deepen the understanding of content, and align with the demands of standardized tests and today's work place.

This workshop is designed to give teachers a firm foundation for using the writing workshop approach in their classrooms. Teachers will learn the research and best practices behind the writing workshop approach, as well as a variety of classroom-tested strategies, to get the workshop started.

Internet Resources that Improve Writing Skills, K-8
In this workshop, participants will learn how Internet resources can make a difference in writing instruction. Graphic organizers, a great prewriting tool, will be demonstrated along with many other resources—from rubrics to publishing—for student and teacher use. Technology can make the writing process easier for both teachers and students.
